Detroit and Cleveland Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Detroit and Cleveland - Essay Example Once upheld because of its transportation system, the cities are now considered hinterlands which thankfully, have awakened concerned parties to look into the issue and find solutions. The solution they found is to improve the transportation system, which politicians found to be a potential investment as examined what happened in the cities around the world which rapidly developed during the last decades. Detroit, which started its influence in the transportation system, first applied the Gallatin plan, making canals that linked the city to other cities and eventually to other states. This made transportation and economic transactions easier and consequently improving the cityââ¬â¢s economy. Eventually, people moved in to the city with new businesses and creating jobs that made the city into a suburb that attracted more people. The growth of Detroitââ¬â¢s population continued with a steep density gradient as it looked towards improving roads for easier transportation, eyeing th e use of airlines to concentrate people in the city. Likewise, Cleveland had a similar experience that made it have a name that could be compared to the formerly mentioned city. It is then observed that transportation indeed have a great influence in the success of a cityââ¬â¢s economy. ... Citizens cried for a better transportation system that would allow them faster and safer travels so they could perform well in their responsibilities. With the glory of the aforementioned cities lost, their populations decreased, affecting their economy and leaving them to seem provincial when compared to cities in Spain which a few decades ago were very far behind when it comes to their economic status. The comparisons with Spain and China became a challenge to the two cities and are now planning their course of action to attract back people to move into the lands, invest in the cities and have their residencies, with an economic based program concentrated on the railway system. Detroitââ¬â¢s plan to use state of the art technology in the transportation system would bring a great change in the travel experiences of people, as they move from place to place on comfortable, high speed rails. The cities envision railroads that allow fast-paced transportations comparable to highly imp roved transport systems of Spain and probably with the German autobahn. The cities look forward to a bright future as they plan to make transportation systems that are wired, using light emitting diodes to produce a dream come true for the nation. This plan is supported by the current president of America however, the financial assistance offered by the government is not sufficient enough to support the project. Despite such a problem, the nation is still hopeful that this will come to pass as the evidence of what high technology transportation has brought to other nations, has proven to be worth the sacrifices. Urban renewal is aimed with the improvement

Nursing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Nursing - Essay Example There is progress, but it is considered to be a very slow trend which needed to be sped up to deliver the potential gains of the strategy (Department of Health, August 2010). An aspect of the End of Life Care Strategy wherein the Department of Health focused on its initial implementation is the care planning (inclusive of assessment) which comes after the identification of people approaching the end of life and will follow the step of coordination of care in the care pathway. It is also where nurses, being part of the multidisciplinary health care team, have active involvement whether working in hospitals or in community settings, more particularly in assessing the patient and the family regarding their needs, wishes and preferences, and is involved in initiating reviews of the care plan to the team if with patientââ¬â¢s permission, thus influenced the selection of the strategyââ¬â¢s aspect to be discussed by this paper. This will explore the implications of the care planning a spect for community heath care providers (nurses in particular), service users (patients) and significant others (family and carers). Community Health Care Providers The Strategy will give emphasis on the nursesââ¬â¢ role in assessment and documentation of patientââ¬â¢s needs, wishes and preferences in addition to her roles regulated by international, national and local policies during the end of life care. As per the code in Nursing & Midwifery Council (2008), nurses are responsible in gaining patientââ¬â¢s trust, treating them as individuals, respecting their dignity, working with others, providing high standard of care, being open and honest, acting with integrity and uphold reputation of profession. This will require nurses to assess and record the needs, wishes, preferences and agreed set of actions of the dying patient (advanced decisions, where to die, etc.) and to participate with the review of the care plan. An example is the Advanced Decisions to Refuse Treatment as a valid and applicable legally-binding document where the nurse is obligated to follow the physiciansââ¬â¢ order to withhold life-preserving treatment as stated therein (NHS, 2010). Other options to be considered are the advanced statement and the DNACPR (Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Service Users (Patients) The care planning of the Strategy aims to enforce assessment and recording of needs, wishes and preferences of patients undergoing their end of life. This will grant patients with greater autonomy in making decisions for their own health, including decisions on where they would like to die. Moreover, it will enforce the community health care providers to assess and record their needs, wishes and preferences even if the patient or family have not yet initiated the discussion of these matters, thereby raising patientââ¬â¢s awareness on his treatment options. The Strategy slightly decreased the number of patients dying at the hospital and die at home inst ead by offering the patient an option to die at home instead (Department of Health, August 2010). Significant Others Families and/or carers of the patient in end of life are also included with the care planning of the Strategy in terms of reviewing the care plan, yet not as specific as the

Computer Systems - Essay Example Installation of VMware Player 5 on Windows 7 was conducted, installation of a guest operating system (Kali Linux x64) done and screenshots asserting the completion of these steps presented. A brief into the future of cloud computing as an application of virtualization has been documented too to cement the fact that indeed the technology has incalculable potential. Virtualization has caused a significant paradigm shift in the way information technology is being used to offer business solutions. This technology has taken over the IT market with a bang as most businesses and companies struggle not to be left out on this ingenious feat of computer engineering. With virtualization, hardware has been stretched to unimaginable levels and concerns over storage, safety and availability of information will soon be a thing of the past. Through it, imposing technologies have emerged to the measure of cloud computing that have taken center stage in the online service industry. A host of many more IT dreams have been made realities following the advent of virtualization. Virtualization is the concept of subdividing a computer resource into several virtual versions of it so as to create multiple operating environments. This virtualization is common implemented upon storage devices, operating systems, servers and networks. Hardware virtualization entails embedding a virtual machine manager, called a hypervisor, into the circuitry of hardware so as to allow multiple operating systems to run (Rouse). The work of the hypervisor is to control allocation of memory, processor and other hardware resources to the different operating systems on the computer without requiring source code to translate addresses and instructions. Each OS is made to ââ¬Ëseeââ¬â¢ that it has its own set of hardware components when actually the hypervisor allocates in an alternating manner. This concept is largely applied in servers where resources are

Encouragement and Development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
Encouragement and Development - Essay Example This is not say that certain subjects did not interest me; they did. Rather, it is merely to assert that I found it difficult to imagine myself passionately pursuing any course of study based on the ones that I was currently introduced to within the standard high school curriculum. As anyone who has attended high school can attest, standard high school curriculum is most closely associated with reading, writing, arithmetic, and standard sciences (to include chemistry, physics, and biology). Once again, even though these interested me, they were not something that captured my imagination or intrigued me to pursue as a potential career choice and/or college major in the future. However, upon my junior year, I signed up for a course in information technology. Although I have always been somewhat talented and gifted in computers and software applications, I had never considered information technology as a potential career choice; or even choice of major for that matter. Yet, the subject matter itself, although intriguing, was not ultimately what encouraged me to the greatest degree. As a result of an exceptional teacher, Mr. Watkins, I was introduced to a broad and deep level of information that I had previously only scratched the surface of. To me, such a reality was unique due to the fact that prior to attending high school I was, of course, aware of the fact that mathematics and science is as well as literature and the arts were accident parts of the world and is necessarily defined the means by which the human experience and achievement took place. Conversely, prior to signing up for and participating in this for Watkins information technology class, I ha ve little if any for knowledge of the range and depth that the complexity of information technology could afford anyone who studied it.Ã Ã

Ideal Education in America Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Ideal Education in America - Essay Example Based on the paper, education represents one of the fundamental backbones of contemporary social organization. While there are many aspects of the ideal education in America, one of the most important aspects is that education function to aid an individual to discover what is inside of them. One of the important considerations in these regards was raised by education theorist Sydney Harris in her essay ââ¬ËWhat true education should doââ¬â¢. In this essay, Harris states, ââ¬Å"genuine educationâ⬠¦is not inserting the stuffings of information into a person, but rather eliciting knowledge from him; it is the drawing out of what is in the mindâ⬠(Harris). This view of education considers that while ostensibly education is the process of learning this does not necessitate that the individual simply learns ââ¬Ëthingsââ¬â¢. Instead, the ideal education must consider the process of education. Harris further notes, ââ¬Å"The job of teaching is not to stuff them and the n seal them up, but to help them open and reveal the riches within. There are pearls in each of usâ⬠(Harris). In this context of understanding, itââ¬â¢s clear that instead of simply educating the student in a series of objective facts as much of America education does, the ideal education must be a fluid process that considers the subjective perspectives and abilities of each student. This ideal education then aids the student in discovering their abilities and reaching their full potential. Another prominent aspect of the ideal education in America is that education develops creative and critical thinking skills. Within this context of understanding, one considers many aspects of the American educational system that fail to accomplish these elements. Uninspired teachers in all departments too frequently resort to strictly following proscribed curriculum measures and treating students as receptacles of knowledge.Ã
